Sometime around fall of 2020, my youngest daughter told me that she really wanted a kayak. It was not something that she had ever done before but she was definitely interested. I kind of waited to see if it was one of those ideas that may come and go, but after she asked a few times, I knew that she was truly interested. So lo and behold, there were two kayaks and two life jackets under the Christmas tree for her at the end of the year. I promised her that we would take them out when we had our first warm, sunny day of the season.
It took a while, but the warmth and sun finally came. So here we are. We have started taking the kayaks out on the weekends when the sun is shining. The water is still cool but not too bad. So far, we have encountered many turtles sunning themselves on logs. We have also found sunken boats and boat houses. Our adventure has taken us out into the Pasquotank River and the Albemarle Sound (when it isn't too choppy).
This will be an ongoing adventure. I'm excited to see where it leads us.
