What a ride!

Phew. I’m here. That sounds a lot less impressive than it actually is. But, I’m here and I’m feeling…good…

I haven’t uttered those words…”I feel good…” in a very long time. But I’m happily saying it now. My good and you’re good may be vastly different but that really doesn’t matter. Because at the end of the day, as adults we are the only ones that are responsible for ourselves in such a way.

But let me go back. First of all, I can’t imagine what my dad has been through in the last several months. I cannot imagine watching my own child deteriorate for no apparent reason. It must have been so agonizing. Don’t get me wrong, it was my physical pain and agony but there is nothing worse in the world than to watch your own child suffer.

And I was sick. Boy, was I sick. It was frustrating and it didn’t make any sense. No matter what we tried, I wasn’t getting better. In fact, I was getting notably sick. I kept thinking back to the six years of remission I had and wondered where they had gone. Ever since coming out of remission, it had been a struggle to stay out of the “red,” so to speak. I was always hanging halfway off the edge, trying not to fall into the next worse thing. And eventually, I would fall. Again and again I fell.

There were hospital stays, blood transfusions, iron transfusions, medications, treatments…everything…you name it.

Eventually, my hair even fell out.

I’m so the mom…

I am so the mom that stands on the sidelines cheering my kid on while she…codes. Yep…codes. At some point during my Friday night, I realized that I’m totally the nerd equivalent of a soccer mom. I introduced Maddie to and it was on. She was playing in the arcade in Python and she was totally nailing the tasks.

Didn’t I just do this?

So, its February. It isn’t just February, though. It is February of 2017. Two thousand and seventeen. I am sitting here wondering where in the heck time has gone.

Of course, if you’re my teenage daughter you would be arguing that time doesn’t really exist…it really isn’t a thing…so it hasn’t gone anywhere. And you’d be right of course…or she’d be right…or you both…however you want to look at this thing…but that is neither here nor there. Now we are talking about spatial reality.

What my kids really think…

I don’t usually do the question/answer things on Facebook but this one has been making its rounds for years. It is always entertaining. So, without any prompting, I asked my kids these questions. I asked them all separately so none of them were influenced by other’s answers.

Twenty Seventeen

Well, I made it! So many things have happened since my last update. I wouldn’t even know where to start. But the most important thing is that I managed to get through 2016. It was touch and go for a while.

We rang in the New Year family-style. We played some Exploding Kittens, watched Rockin New Years Eve and toasted the new year. All of the kids managed to make it to midnight even though it was hours past their normal bedtimes. It was worth it.

Back to School!

It is that time of year again…the time that the kids have been dreading. Goodbye summer vacation, hello school year.

It really isn’t so bad. The little ones are mostly bummed about bedtime. During the summer (and weekends) they are allowed to stay up until 10pm and they get to take their tablets to bed. On school nights though, they have to hand over their tablets and get in bed at their bedtime (8pm and 9pm for the two littles).
